  • We are a non-profit corporation designed to bring the message of experience, strength and hope to those seeking recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. Our purpose is to offer a safe place for recovering people to meet and congregate to hold educational, self-help discussion groups and foster social gatherings. The Milwaukee Alano Club holds 40 recovery meetings every week, click the “Meeting Schedule” tab to find a meeting today. We support all those who wish to live a life of sobriety.

Located near the shores of Lake Michigan, The Milwaukee Club is often affectionately referred to as the East Side Alano (ESA) or the MKE Alano Club.

In our 75+ year history, the MKE Alano Club has welcomed thousands of alcoholics and addicts through our doors to attend recovery meetings and numerous events & activities. Our doors are open 365 days a year. We offer the recovery community a place to go to attend meetings which are held daily. We welcome people to take a break and have a beverage or snack at our café, and attend various activities and special events. Some past activities include: Dances, Spades Tournaments, Arts & Crafts nights, Yoga, Packer Parties, Holiday Dinners, Summer Cookouts, Recovery Walks, Volleyball and Baseball teams, plus we host many events at the club that are planned & put on by our other friends in the recovery community from across the state! Check out our “Events” tab to find upcoming events and to view some of the activities that we have hosted in the past.

Alcoholics Anonymous does not finance or lend its name to any outside enterprise; and the Milwaukee Alano Club is an outside organization, separate and distinct from Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon, or any other 12-Step group. We are a meeting place for people in recovery. Each meeting that is held at the MKE Alano Club is conducted as an autonomous group, and each group pays rent to the Club to help pay operating expenses.

Rent from meetings covers only a small portion of our expenses. The MKE Alano Club has played a vital role in the wellbeing of our community for over 75 years due to the willingness and generosity of volunteers, our café sales, fund raising events, as well as financial support from various grants and donors. If you want to learn more about how you can join or support the MKE Alano Club, click the “Take Action” tab.

There are a variety of resources available at the Club for the newcomer as well as the not-so-new recovering person. Many find support and learn about new ways to change and improve their lives. Every day we are witnesses to the miracles recovery has given to so many of us.

We welcome you to come and enjoy the fellowship we have grown to love and cherish!

In 2023, Bobby Tanzillo from OnMilwaukee wrote an article on our building and organization, along with a radio interview. Check out the article here!

Serving dozens daily, hundreds monthly, and thousands yearly we strive to create an environment where those recovering from alcohol and drug addiction can get their feet on solid ground, construct a foundation, and rebuild their lives.

Is the MKE Alano Club the same as AA?

No, they are not the same. Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people dedicated to recovering from alcoholism. Alano Clubs were originally founded throughout the country in order to give AA groups a more permanent place to meet. These are two separate organizations; today Alano Clubs support AA meetings and many other addiction & recovery-focused groups.
